Greek Giants Launch Shock Move For Owen?
Just arriving into The Transfer Tavern from the Daily Star, who are telling us that Greek side Olympiakos “have launched a cheeky bid” to sign Michael Owen from Newcastle United.
The tabloid claiming, that the Greek double winners “are offering” 29-year-old Owen a “bumper pay packet” to turn his back on the Premier League and make the switch to Athens.
It said the Kokkini “hope that the lure” of playing Champions League football next term at the Karaiskakis Stadium, will be enough to “persuade free agent” Owen to “head” to the Greek capital.
Having already signed Matt Derbyshire from Blackburn and ex Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg from Juventus. It is claimed that the “move for Owen dwarfs those deals”, with it said that Olympiakos “insist they will beat” the salaries on offer to Owen in the Premiership.
So what sort of liquid refreshment was at the source of this one? Have the Greek side really made a cheeky bid for the forgotten England International? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
