Royston DrentheFirst one in this Wednesday morning to The Transfer Tavern, with the news that the Daily Star, say Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill “will revive his interest” in Real Madrid defender Royston Drenthe.

The tabloid claims that the Villans boss is “weighing up a £4million” offer for 22-year-old Drenthe as a “replacement” for Nicky Shorey at the Premier League club. The former Feyenoord player believed to be available due to the impending “fire sale” at Los Blancos.

Dutch Under-21 International Drenthe is said to have “struggled to establish himself” at the La Liga club since his switch from Holland in 2007. Drenthe believed to be “part of a clear-out” at the Bernabeu by Real president Florentino Perez to “raise funds” to cover the purchases of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

O’Neill is said to have been “an admirer” of the left-back “prior” to Drenthe moving to the Spanish capital and made “enquiries” about the Dutchman’s “availability”.

It now claimed that Drenthe is available “at around £6million”, with the former Celtic boss seeing him “as a perfect replacement” for 28-year-old Shorey at the Premiership side.

So what sort of liquid refreshment was at the source of this one? Are, Villa really set to make a move for the Dutch defender? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
