Jordi GomezJust into The Transfer Tavern from the Daily Mail, who are saying that new Wigan manager Roberto Martinez  “has targeted” Jordi Gomez of Espanyol as his “first” signing at the JJB Stadium.

The paper claiming that Latics chairman Dave Whelan “believes he has agreed a £1.5million fee” to bring the striker to the Premier League from the La Liga outfit.

It said that Gomez was “impressive” for Championship side Swansea managed by Martinez, while on loan at the Swans last campaign, with the Periquitos midfielder finding the net 14 times during his season at the Liberty Stadium.

According to the paper, Middlesbrough and West Brom along with Premiership side Birmingham “were all very keen” on 24-year-old Gomez. The Blues said to have “believed” they could still “strike a deal” with the Spanish club this week.

However, Martinez “has moved fast” to lure the attacking-midfielder to the JJB, with Gomez “one of four’ targets Martinez has identified to “pursue” over the “next week”

So what sort of beverage was at the root of this tale? Are Gomez and Martinez really set for a reunion at the JJB? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
