Blackburn Boss Plotting £9million Sunderland Swoop?
The Video Jukebox ground to a halt in The Transfer Tavern, when Alan Nixon at The Mirror told us as a exclusive, that Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is “ready to swoop” for Kenwyne Jones at Premier League rivals Sunderland, but only if “pal” Steve Bruce “lands” his own targets.
Alan claiming, that Allardyce “fancies” 24-year-old Jones “as an ideal replacement” for Roque Santa Cruz at Ewood Park and that the Rovers boss “hopes” Bruce can land Darren Bent and peter Crouch to “make the move possible” to prise the Trinidad & Tobago International away from the Stadium of Light.
It said that the Black Cats striker had a “hit and miss” campaign last year and that Bruce has “shown” he intends to strengthen the squad at the Premiership side “by bidding” for Bent and Crouch.
Nixon saying Blackburn “would pay around £8 to £9million” for Jones as his “value has dipped” since Tottenham “inquired” about the striker in the winter transfer window and that the North London side have now “gone off” the former Southampton player.
Blackburn apparently drawing “blanks” in the transfer market as their “chase for strikers” from Europe to strengthen the attack at Rovers “proving too expensive”, with “top choice” Kevin Davies “not for sale”.
Allardyce said to have “been given a kitty” to secure “the right man” and is prepared to “wait” for the big striker “to become available” as Jones is the “type of physical” forward Allardyce needs for his direct approach football.
So what sort of liquid sauce was at the source of this one? Is Allardyce really ready to make a £9million swoop for Jones? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
