Bentley Set For Hughes Reunion In Petrov Swap Deal?

Bentley & HuttonAll go as the deadline approaches in The Transfer Tavern, with the Daily Mail saying, that Tottenham misfit David Bentley is to “be handed the golden ticket” of a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City as part of a swap deal for Martin Petrov.

Sportsmail claiming the Spurs winger will get the chance to resurrect his career at the Eastlands Stadium on an initial long-term loan deal from Spurs, who are also signing Portsmouth midfielder Niko Kranjcar for £2million.

It said both Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and counterpart Mark Hughes want the switch to happen, with the Citizens boss hoping to be reunited by the 5pm deadline with Bentley, who has struggled to make his mark at White Hart Lane since his £15million move from Blackburn last summer.

Redknapp is also claimed to be pleased with the deal, with Tottenham in the market for a left-sided player following Luka Modric breaking his leg at the weekend, with chairman Daniel Levy leading talks on Monday night to bring Bulgarian International Petrov to North London.

Tottenham tried to sign Petrov from Atletico Madrid before he signed for the Citizens in 2007, but are now reportedly set to land the winger, who is valued at just £3.5million and has just 12 months left on his contract at City.

30-year-old Petrov surplus to requirements after the influx of arrivals at the free-spending Premiership side this summer, with the paper saying he could still sign even if there is a hitch in Bentley’s move in the opposite direction. Spurs apparently value the former Rovers winger at £12million and have already snubbed an offer of £8million from Aston Villa.

So what sort of liquid lubrication helped this one slide from pen to paper? Is Bentley really heading for a Hughes reunion as part of the Petrov deal? Should this rumour Fly or Die?

Are City mad??? Petrov for Bentley?? Tottenham would really be lucky if they pull that one off. Petrov is class. I wouldn’t want to see him playing for another premiership club that is for sure.
