Countdown to the start of the next transfer window:

Derby and Leeds on trail of Dickov

Leeds United and Derby County are said to be hot on the trail of recently released Leicester forward Paul Dickov according to the Daily Mirror.

Veteran striker Dickov is seen as the final piece in Leeds United manager Simon Grayson’s promotion puzzle, whilst Derby are known to be keen on the 37 year old Scot after a successful loan spell at the club earlier this season.

Dickov started his career as an Arsenal trainee before moving on to Manchester City to gain first team football. Dickov can be considered as a journeyman having played for over nine clubs in his career, including two separate spells at Leicester City and Manchester City. Capped 10 times for Scotland with one goal to his name, the no-nonsense centre forward who was known as ‘the Pest’ amongst Leicester fans for his battling and combative approach was deemed surplus to requirements at the Walker’s stadium after not making a single appearance this season and was shipped out on a 6 month loan to Derby County. Dickov made 16 appearances for the Rams this season with 2 goals.

Derby Manager Nigel Clough was extremely impressed with his short loan spell at the club and given their strong desire to sign the player are believed to be favourites to secure the Scot. Yet Leeds United have emerged with late interest and may attempt to scupper any deal Dickov may agree with Derby. Furthermore with supposed interest from numerous League One clubs such as Huddersfield and Gillingham, Dickov would have plenty of options for the rest of the season.
