Abysmal Anti Chelsea Press Have Twisted Torres Quotes

Regular readers of this site may know I am not impartial. I’m Tottenham and make no effort to hide it.
That said when I write about other clubs, I hope to do so in an honest manner. Even if when taking the Michael. In this instance there is little room for inter club banter. The press have behaved in nothing short of a shameful manner in relation to this whole Torresgate business.
I understand that the player has removed the quotes from his website. This is a pity. If I were Fernando, I’d damn well keep them up there and make sure as many people read them as possible.
Here is what he actually said…
”When I changed clubs, I knew it was going to be a slow process, although I didn’t expect it to be so long. Chelsea is, between the English teams, maybe the least English.
That’s because of the kind of player Chelsea has — an older player, who plays very slow, who has a lot of possession — and that’s what the club is trying to change now. It’s not easy to find midfielders because the best ones are already in the best teams.
“But the arrival of Mata is going to give another pace to the team. Daniel Sturridge, who has been ruled out for a while, is also an incredible player — maybe the one that has surprised me the most since I came here.
In the next matches, you will see another pace and I hope the midfield will adapt to that pace. That is what you need in the Premier League. If not, then the teams do not work.”
To twist this into ‘Torres Brands Team-mates Old & Slow’ isn’t acceptable. It is cheap, backward ‘journalism’ and frankly I’d go as far as suggesting that a formal apology is now due.
Was Torres worth £50M? I don’t care – I’m a Spurs fan! – but I know this; he didn’t make the attack he was said to have made. Too frequently the media are accused of being weighted towards or against certain sides. Normally this is rubbish generated in the minds of thin skinned supporters.
In this instance, there may well be something in it.

Transfer Rumours 24/7

In fact if you witness the recording, he never mentions slow or old at all – it is pure fabrication. I think all Chelsea fans know that the hacks are out to make Nando’s life a misery so that he seeks pastures new. I for one will back him – I also back him to register at this evening’s game!

He said he has had trouble fitting in because of the type of player Chelsea has, older players who play very slow. If that isn’t calling them old and slow what is? He also states that the club is trying to change it but the best midfielders are taken. Not very good reading if you are a Chelsea midfielder. Torres is a flop.

The press obsession with Torres is ridiculous. As a chelsea ST holder I think he was a waste of money for a player we really didn’t need but this constant bile is pathetic. Every match report is more about whether torres played/scored or not not the game.
He’s actually played pretty well whether he scores or not and been incredibly unselfish. Its not like he’s been missing sitters, at chelsea scoring is by committee and doesn’t rely on one or two players.
And the points he makes are valid and not at all disruptive. He is merely repeating what AVB has been saying about moving the ball quickly being more creative and incisive.
