Arsene Targets Premiership Enforcer For Champions League Place Push

According to several reports in the last few days, Arsenal have apparently agreed a deal to sign to from Cologne and have joined the rather large queue to sign his Germany team-mate Mario Gotze.

However, the Daily Mail are also reporting that Blackburn’s Steven Nzonzi is high up on ’s list of transfer targets.

Nzonzi has been linked with the North Londoners before. He uses the ball well and is solid defensive midfielder, but I’m not sure whether Arsenal really need him.

They have got , and at times , doing a good job in the defensive midfield role. They also have , who looks like a very good prospect, to come back from injury, as well as the promising .

Arsene Wenger has plenty of options in the central or defensive midfield roles. Its’s further up the pitch where he might be looking to strengthen. Arsenal need added competition in the forward roles, in order to motivate, and get the best out of the likes of and .

Decent cover (or perhaps a replacement) for must also be a priority.

Where Podolski and Gotze are probably realistic targets for Arsenal, Nzonzi is perhaps more a case of Arsenal being linked with everyone at the moment.

As I said, Arsenal have been linked with the 23-year-old before, and I do think he is a good player. And Arsenal could probably get Nzonzi relatively cheaply, especially if Blackburn get relegated, but whether he is ready to play in Europe is another matter.

It is not totally out of the question, I just believe that if Arsenal do sign Nzonzi it will only be as back up, or because Wenger thinks his youngsters are not up to the task of first-team football.

I think this should be the team next season. Szczęsny, Sagna, (new defender), Vermaelen, Kibbs, Chamberlain, Gotze, Wilshere, Hazard, Van Persie(C)Podolski. Sub: Shea, Koscielny, Coquelin, Song, Ramsey, Arteta, Giroud.

Jack, that team would get run over in seconds. Jack’s a great central midfielder but he lacks the hardman capability to handle the holding mid role – because Goetze sure as shit can’t. Also, Chambo’s a 18-19 year old, playing him all the time will definitely result in him getting hurt.

We need someone like N’Zonzi or M’Vila (N’Zonzi might just be better, EPL tested but cheaper because of less hype) so that Song can take over Arteta’s role as the more attacking of the two deep central mids. This will leave space for Wilshere to be the attacking mid, where his insane vision will be a great asset.

I think only one of Goetze/Hazard is needed, and I’d probably prefer Goetze because I think Hazard won’t be looking to really stay at any club he goes to for very long. Another striker and a utility defender are also necessary.
