Sky Sports, who have revealed the club have signed Argentinian defender David Abraham from Getafe.
The 26-year-old former FC Basel defender has signed a contract with the Sinsheim-based club until 2016. Hoffenheim are battling against relegation, and are looking to recruit players this January they feel will help them survive the drop.
A move for West Ham United midfielder Alou Diarra has also been mentioned recently in French publication Le10Sport.
“David Abraham has, from the first meeting with us, demonstrated a strong willingness to accept this difficult challenge here at Hoffenheim,” the club’s general manager Andreas Muller told their website. “I am confident he will help us.”
Coach Marco Kurz said of the deal: “David has a lot of experience for his age at the highest level, which is now very important to us. The particular strengths I see are his speed and his handling of one-on-one situations. I am glad we have been able to get him.”
Abraham is thought to be a like-for-like replacement for German international Marvin Compper, who is understood to be close to joining Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
The club currently sit 16th in the Bundesliga, and have already sacked a manager this season – former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel.
