Countdown to the start of the next transfer window:

Transfer Deadline day round-up

Another transfer deadline day has come and gone, so here at The Transfer Tavern we take a look at the main dealings from the final day.

Assamoah Gyan (Rennes – Sunderland)
Sunderland have broken their transfer record to bring Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan to the Stadium of Light. Bruce became a fan of Gyan after he scored three times during the World Cup in the summer.

Robinho (Man City – AC …

Is Henrik Larsson The Most Underrated Striker Ever?

When people talk about the best striker that ever lived you’ll always hear the same old names. Van Basten, Muller, Ronaldo etc. It’s extremely rare you’ll ever hear someone mention Henrik Larsson in the same breath though. For me he’s without doubt the most underrated striker ever. And the reason he gets so little credit is always that old chestnut, “he only scored goals in Scotland”.

Not true. He’s scored goals in …

Is Diarra The Key To Ending The Mascherano Saga?

The Mascherano to Barcelona soap opera is starting to get really old now. It’s like another Ken Barlow infidelity story, yeah he’s old and cheating on his wife but who gives a shit?

It’s over a week since I wrote that the monster Masch would be going to Barcelona and the clubs in question are starting to make me look stupid. I can’t …

Expensive Flop Heading to Italy?

On the day in which Sky Sports launches its tedious news channel in high definition, it is hard to imagine how standard transfer fodder could be considered relevant in the minds of literally anyone. However, we must trundle on all the same, and so I bring to you the news that Zlatan Ibrahimović has today been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp.

Just one year on from his big …

Old habits die hard. No matter where the striker is, he never loses his awareness of where the goal is.

Here then is a recent snap of the Arsenal and occasionally Barca legend taking some time out from his footballing activities.

We have a copy of fan’s favourite Chris Kamara’s Footynotes book to give away to the funniest caption.

A Question Of Loyalty…

Date: 7th August 2010 at 6:54 pm | Filed under: Arsenal,Barcelona,Liverpool,Spain | Author: Craig Morris | Tags: , , , , , , ,

Cesc Fabregas is “100% committed to Arsenal” after his proposed move to Barcelona hit the skids. Fabregas has recently said: “I owe a lot to the club, manager and the fans and I will respect their decision and will now concentrate on the new season ahead with Arsenal.”

That’s good news for the gunners fans out there, but committing yourself to your club when you no longer have any choice isn’t really …

Going nowhere

Mikel Arteta finally quelled any talk of him moving to Arsenal, Manchester City or Barcelona by today signing a five year contract ahead of Everton’s final pre-season friendly game, a 2-0 defeat to German borderline contenders Wolfsburg.

Whether this is partially to do with Everton’s strong pre-season performances is a possibility, but remains a triviality, especially in light of how the Spaniard expressed his feelings this afternoon.

Speaking to Evertonfc.com, Arteta stated:

“What …

Meet The Man Behind Arsenal And Barca’s Mexican Stand Off

Best little spaniard

Arteta to Mik off elsewhere?

Cesc Fabregas is looking increasingly likely to stay put at underachieving Arsenal, and for whatever reason, foregoing silverware opportunities at Barcelona which presently seem to be greater than those with the North London club. Undoubtedly this is good news for those of a red and white disposition, as Fabregas (still with his best playing years ahead) is an indomitable rock in the young Arsenal team …

Foreigners Flogged for Home Grown Heroes?

As the start of the new football campaign draws near, many clubs are working frantically to make sure they have a strong squad in place to enable them to mount a strong challenge once the season opens on August 14th.

After England’s disappointing display in South Africa this summer, serious questions have been raised about not only the country’s grassroots development system, but also the number of home grown players performing at …

Fab’s Fuelling The Fire

With only two weeks to go to the start of the Premier League campaign, the future of Arsenal’s Cesc Fabragas is still very much unclear. Will the Spaniard be dazzling the North London faithful once more at the Emirates this season or do sunnier climates await back in his native Catalonia?

Regardless of public opinion, Fabregas’ lack of public comment on the subject seems to have spoken more than words, with the World Cup …
