Their former manager may have just been given £240 million to spend at Bayern Munich, but according to Goal.com Barcelona are prepared to spend big themselves in order to land Neymar and that is making waves here at the Football Transfer Tavern.
The Brazillian has been at the very top of the Catalan club’s wish list for longer than we care to discuss and this week it was claimed the side have a unique plan to lure the starlet. Dani Alves – himself a Barcelona player and national team mate of Neymar has been given the task of luring the youngster to the Camp Nou.
Cue a mass of media speculation and Neymar being forced to come out and respond to the claims, telling Fifa.com “Dani’s always embarrassing me! He’s put me in a tight spot. Even I don’t know whether I’ll still be at Santos after the World Cup. My contract runs to 2014 but there is still a long way to go before the World Cup. I don’t know if I will renew it or not.”
He further added: “It’s a personal issue and I’ll have to talk it through with my family and Santos. We’ll definitely speak about it further down the line.” Of course the player recently claimed to Marca that he would love to work with Pep Guardiola one day and given the amount of money available to the Bayern manager in waiting, that may well be a possibility come the summer.
