Whilst we at the Football Transfer Tavern have been left feeling puzzled at Real Madrid’s failure to tie their players down contract wise, Barcelona have had no such issues and according to Marca another big player is set to pledge their future to the Catalan giants.

In recent weeks, skipper Carles Puyol penned a long-term deal, not to mention Lionel Messi, Cristian Tello and Jose Manuel Pinto. Midfield star Xavi Hernandez followed suit and Andres Iniesta is the latest in this long line who is set to commit to Tito Vilanova’s side.

Iniesta has been the heart beat of the Barcelona side for longer than Lionel Messi has been around and was instrumental back in the days of Ronaldinho. As Leo Messi rightly claims, he would not be half as successful without the little wizard or indeed his partner in crime, Xavi.

The Spanish International has now claimed: “Finishing here would be really special. That’s what I would love to do. It’s my dream. We’re not talking [about renewal] at the moment, but I don’t think it will be very hard to come to an understanding. When the club wants you there and you want to be there, there’s not much else to talk about.”

Iniesta is of course under contract until 2015 and has been at Barcelona since he was 12 years of age when he arrived at La Masia and looks set to end his career at the club that has brought him so much success.

Are you upset that we won’t see Iniesta on these shores? Vote in our polls below.
