It was only last week here at the Football Transfer Tavern that we were discussing the future of Real Madrid full back Fabio Coentrao who according to Marca is playing with his career in a dangerous way.
Real Madrid are of course down to the bare bones in their defence, with Pepe now on crutches, Sergio Ramos continuing his love affair with the yellow card and thus suspensions and Marcelo out for a while to come.
All of this meant that Mourinho was set to lean on Coentrao in the initial few weeks of this season, but the player came back from the winter break with no improvement to his injury after failing to follow the club set rehabilitation plan. This is not even mentioning missing the first training session back all together and trouble is brewing.
Coentrao has long struggled at the club after such a hefty fee was paid for the Portuguese player and has been mercilessly criticised by the Spanish press. For the most part, Mourinho has stuck by his compatriot yet with the latest show of defiance, he is set to punish him to the fullest.
Chelsea are of course in the market for a left back and the latest developments will only encourage them further.
