Golden Balls heads to Paris
Everyone has put their pints down in the Football Transfer Tavern, as some big news on a former England captain has arrived courtesy of Simon Johnson at the London Evening Standard.
David Beckham has provided us with a deadline day shock by agreeing to join French giants Paris Saint Germain. The former England captain had been linked with a dramatic return to the Premier League, with London clubs West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal all reportedly in the mix. He had spent the week training with the Gunners, prompting speculation of a dramatic switch to North London.
However Beckham has travelled to Paris to undergo a medical, and is expected to be officially unveiled at a press conference at 4pm today.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger had 12 formal offers from around the globe, including clubs in South America, Russia, China, the Middle East and Europe.
But it appears the offer of Champions League football, and the opportunity of winning a league title in a fourth different country was too good an opportunity to turn down for Beckham, who will link up again with former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, who he worked with during his loan spell at AC Milan.
The transfer could see Beckham travel between Paris and London, where his family are currently based.
