Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we have become more used to talking about the future of Didier Drogba than that of his past and present team mate Nicolas Anelka. However given the latest claims in Gazzetta Dello Sport, Anelka could well place himself firmly back on our radar.
The Frenchman of course is facing the same Chinese nightmare that Didier Drogba is and both have been looking for a way out of the club, yet it has been Drogba who has been linked with both Juventus and AC Milan.
Today however, the Italian media have been linking the French striker with a move to Juventus.
The club have long been linked to Fernando Llorente and finally concluded a deal for the Spaniard this week with the Athletic Bilbao man joining in the summer. Gazzetta claim that Anelka has placed himself firmly ahead of Lyon’s Lisandro Lopez on the Bianconeri’s wish list after he and his representatives found a way out of his current contract.
Gazzetta seem to be on a roll today and also claim that the deal for Didier Drogba to Juventus is to be abandoned after the player and current club Shenhua made demands that were ‘virtually impossible’ leading the Old Lady to turn their attentions elsewhere.
Whilst Drogba may be making audacious demands, Anelka is willing to take a pay cut to join a top club in Eruope once again and given the money the player has made in transfer fees over the years, one suspects he can afford it.
