One of the moves we expected here at the Football Transfer Tavern either this January or in the summer was the transfer of Fernando Llorente and that is set to happen eventually according to Mundo Deportivo.
Llorente has long wished to leave Athletic Bilbao and could teach Wesley Sneijder a thing or two about being a contract rebel. Llorente has not featured for the Basque side this season after refusing to sign a new deal on the back of last season’s success and resenting the fact that Javi Martinez was allowed to depart to Bayern Munich when he was refused a departure.
The club were thought to be willing to keep the player in the reserves until the summer, but with Llorente free to talk to clubs, the battle for his signature has begun with Juventus leading the way.
The Italian giants have reportedly offered 4 million euros to secure the player this winter, but Bilbao look to be holding firm on their promise until the summer when Llorente can leave for free. The club have claimed Juventus have begun negotiations for the player who once upon a time would have commanded a hefty transfer fee, yet now looks set to go on a free in June.
