Diego Lugano on a six-month loan deal.
The player has not made a single appearance for mega-rich Paris Saint Germain this season and was desperate for a move, and to link up with coach Manuel Pellegrini who he claims ‘wanted him.’
The player told AS that: “Pellegrini knows me well from South America and he told me that he personally wanted me in the group for my footballing characteristics. And that’s important for a player’s confidence.”
He also addressed concerns that he may not be at full fitness after failing to feature for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in Ligue 1 this season by claiming: “Physically I am fine. I have played with my country but I am missing minutes on the pitch.”
Malaga are of course flying high in La Liga and are in the knockout stages of the Champions League and were keen to boost their squad before Europe’s elite competition resumed.
Before his move to the French capital, Lugano enjoyed arguably the best spell of his career in Turkey for Istanbul giants Fenerbahce where he earned a reputation as a goal scoring centre half.
