There was a definite air of frustration surrounding Brendan Rodgers as he took his seat for his pre match press conference on Thursday.
The Liverpool boss openly spoke of the transfer problems he has been facing in what has been a testing summer for the Anfield club.
Of course, Luis Suarez was on the agenda. Rodgers wearily declared a late bid from Real Madrid would be a waste of time, as the Anfield giants have no time to find a replacement, however you could sense the nervousness in his voice when discussing the potential late offer from the Spaniards.
Attentions then turned to the Reds failed chase for Brazilian winger Willian, a man Rodgers described as ‘perfect’ for helping the clubs cause.
Rodgers explained: ”We identify the targets and then try and get the deal done financially. That’s how it was. The club has pushed financially as hard as they felt they could but it wasn’t to be.
“It’s disappointing because this was a player who would have been perfect for us.”
The Willian situation is perhaps the first sign of Liverpool owners FSG failing to back Rodgers in the transfer market.
Perhaps understandable considering the awful business done during the reign of Kenny Dalglish, but Rodgers remains desperate to add new faces before the close of the window.
One of those new faces could be Derby County youngster Will Hughes, if rumours are to be believed.
Not perhaps the household name Reds fans are looking for, but never-the-less an exciting talent.
Here we have identified 5 things you may not know about Liverpool’s latest transfer target.
