They may have bought half of France in the last transfer window but times are still hard for the Magpies and fans are getting worried about dropping into the Championship once again. Add to this the uncertainty of their skipper Fabricio Coloccini’s long-term future at the club and it has been a mixed bag for the Premier League side this term.
Now however they have received a massive boost as highly rated 22-year-old Davide Santon has declared his intent to stay at the club despite being linked with a move away from St. James’ Park for the majority of the transfer window.
AC Milan were doing a little more than casting glances at the player, yet he has insisted to the Evening Standard that: “At the moment this is the only place to play for me. There are not a lot of Italians in the Premier League, just Fabio Borini. The Premier League is better than Serie A and better than La Liga. The fans here are the best.”
He also claimed that the time he is spending on the field at St. James’s Park is helping his international prospects, noting: “Playing at Newcastle has also helped me get back into the Italy squad. My coach in Italy is happy with me and so is Mr Pardew. I will keep giving 100 per cent.”
