One of the Football Transfer Tavern’s favourite transfer sagas of the summer looks set to be over as Arsenal’s move for Luis Suarez is all but dead, as reported by Sky Sports.
Arsenal have had numerous bids rejected by Liverpool for Suarez this summer and it appeared that the Uruguayan was set to stay at Anfield after apologising to his team-mates and manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Gunners have not given up on the striker though and Arsene Wenger has claimed that although the deal is not likely to happen any time soon, he will keep an eye on goings on in Merseyside before possibly making another late bid for the star striker.
Wenger is under pressure to purchase before the end of the transfer window in just over a weeks’ time and it appears the Frenchman is becoming desperate after seemingly missing out on another transfer target in the shape of Yohan Cabaye.
The Suarez deal is seemingly dead for now but Wenger will certainly be making more moves before next month comes about.
“That can happen. You’ve certainly tried to go out with a girl but find she has chosen someone else. You don’t commit suicide,” Wenger said.
“I don’t want to speak in detail about what has happened. One day, why not?
“But now it’s not the moment to talk about that. I just said it’s over. We have to get on with our lives.
“I can understand the interest in these types of signings, but it’s five per cent of the game.”
“For 95 per cent of the time it’s something more – the spirit inside the club, the values of the club. But today you feel that it is only about that. I’m not against splashing out, but football is not only about that.”
