It’s a rumour that won’t seem to go away in the Football Transfer Tavern and once again Daily Telegraph journalist Jeremy Wilson is sat round the bar claiming that hot property Wilfried Zaha will sign for Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Wilson declares that Arsene Wenger is determined to add some attacking options to his misfiring side in the window and Zaha is his main target with a bid of £18 million being prepared by the North London club. The England international has been watched comprehensively by Arsenal scouts and they have now recommended the 20-year-old as the solution to Wenger’s attacking problems.
Young, quick, powerful and with an eye to goal, Zaha looks set to be a ready-made replacement for contract rebel Theo Walcott, should he depart the club as expected later next year.
Championship high-flyers Crystal Palace are determined to keep hold of their best player as they aim to return to the Premier League themselves but they may struggle to hang onto him if Arsenal come calling with a large bid given their excellent recent record with blooding youngsters. It’s likely to be one that will run and run until the transfer window closes at the end of January.
