Arsenal supporters have gathered around the snooker table in the Football Transfer Tavern to assess yesterday’s 3-1 home victory over Stoke City.
Most agree that Arsene Wenger’s side are looking the part during the early stages of the new season after going top of the Premier League at the weekend.
While additions were minimal in terms of numbers, the arrival of world class midfielder Mesut Ozil on deadline day is already proving to be the finest piece of business that the French tactician has completed in recent years.
Talk has now turned to where the Gunners could strengthen even further in the January transfer window as Wenger tries to bolster his squad ahead of a potential title challenge.
The Express now suggests that the Gunners are planning a future move for FC Basel centre back Fabian Schär, who is also being tracked by Juventus.
The name may sound familiar to most in the tavern after the Swiss international was part of the Basel side that put Chelsea to the sword in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday night. Schär has now attracted interest from Wenger, after demonstrating his ability for club and country over the last 12 months.
The 21-year-old has already won three caps for Switzerland and he also appears to have an eye for goal after netting on an impressive eight occasions last term.
However the Gunners could face competition from Serie A giants Juventus who are also interested in the St Gallen-born player and Basel are now bracing themseleves for January bids for their star defender.
