The Football Transfer Tavern is preparing for another Saturday of football action and before the early kick-off against Fulham a group of Arsenal fans have arrived in the bar.
They are joined by Gary Jones from the Daily Star who reports that Arsenal have joined the race for Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel and may now compete with Liverpool for the 25-year-old.
The Reds have had an initial £3 million offer knocked back by the Portuguese club but are reportedly ready to return with a bid closer to the player’s £6 million valuation.
However Brendan Rodgers could now face a battle with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to land Capel with the French boss now interested in the winger.
Capel has previously admitted that he once to leave Portugal so he can test himself at the highest level and he indicated that a move to the Premier League would be of interest to him.
The Gunners could now step up their interest with a formal enquiry about his availability and having possible Champions League football could hold the key to landing the Spanish wide man.
Wenger’s side lead Fenerbahce 3-0 after an impressive performance during the week and are expected to qualify for the group stages for the draw next Friday.
The two cap Spanish international’s current deal with Sporting runs until 2016 but his club have financial concerns that could be see him sold this summer with interest mounting in the Premier League.
