Arsenal fans are looking hopeful in the Football Transfer Tavern after the news from The Sun claims that the Gunners could have moved to the front of the queue in the race for Gonzalo Higuain.
The forward’s father – also his agent – met with Arsenal over the weekend and that news did not go down well in Turin. So much so that the rumoured interest in Pipa from Juventus has reportedly cooled, meaning that Arsene Wenger could well have moved to the front of the cue for the 25-year-old.
Wenger has of course seen the potential of a Stevan Jovetic arrival cool quite considerably and is desperate for a top class forward to join the club this summer. Higuain has claimed that he sees his future elsewhere and given the abuse he received from the Bernabeu faithful last season one can hardly blame the player.
As one of our punters quips, after the claim from Florentino Perez yesterday that Higuain would not be allowed to leave the club until a new manager had been appointed and made a decision over his future, at the very least it seems that club and player are on a collision course. Despite all this, it is thought that a bid of £20 million would be enough to land the Argentine.
