Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, the Daily Mail have us on the edge of our bar stools as they claim that Arsenal could actually land one of their top targets this summer.
The club have been considering making a move for out of favour Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo and punters believe he would represent the true replacement for Alex Song.
The player has found himself out of the Bayern starting eleven for some time now, playing second fiddle to Javi Martinez and now new signing Thiago Alcanatra.
Given the World Cup is taking place at the end of the season, the 26-year-old will want to play as much as physically possible.
It seems a move to Arsenal interests Gustavo, after he noted: “My contract with Bayern runs until 2015 but it is very important that I play first-team football to keep getting called up for Brazil.
“I am in a very delicate situation at Bayern and this needs sorting out. I have personal and professional reasons to move.
“I have heard about the Arsenal interest. It’s a big club we’re talking about here so of course I’d like to play for them.”
He further gushed: “Arsenal play an attractive brand of football and are in the Champions League. They also have a very clever manager in Arsene Wenger.
“Even when Bayern beat them in the last Champions League [on away goals] you could see they are not pushovers.”
Clearly Luiz Gustavo has designs on a move to the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal are not the only team keen on the player with the German press reporting that Gustavo also has offers emerging from Russia, Germany and Spain.
