maher.jpgHere in the Football Transfer Tavern Arsenal fans are getting more than a little panicked about the story in the Daily Mail that Manchester City are about to swoop for one of their main transfer targets.

City have turned their attention to 19-year-old midfielder Adam Maher. The youngster is currently making waves in the Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar and is valued at £10 million. City of course are looking at a summer shake up and Arsenal are considering re-vamping their side in order to challenge for Champions League football once more but to finally end their trophy drought too.

Maher is odds on to leave his club at the end of the season and given the fact that Samir Nasri is reporetdly set to leave the Etihad Stadium, City feel that the Dutch teenage sensation could well prove his replacement. The playmaker is someone who Arsenal have had their eye on for a while now and could well be set to make a play for the player themselves.

The Gunners are of course well versed in seeing City not only take their players but outbid them to boot and this latest attempt has been met by shaken heads from the Arsenal supporting punters in the tavern today. Dutch international Maher is someone who has long been admired by Arsene Wenger and given his performances this season, it comes as little surprise.

It is not only Arsenal and City who have expressed an interest in the youngster however as Barcelona and Newcastle United have also taken more than  a lingering glance at the talent.

Who will win the battle for Maher? Is he the player Arsenal need? Let us know your thoughts below.

So another mini league starlet making waves.Whatever happened to Chamberlain? He was the next big thing to Walcott and was tipped to make an impression. Same with Ramsey and a hot or long procession of other top class starlets who have disappointed. The thing is Wenger wanted to win the epl on the chep. Since the last 5 years the kids have faield to deliver and it took the 8-2 debacle to wake him up.
Since then,I don’t know,he has been linked with wc kids and could resurrect his unsuccessful scheme. I say no more time be given to him if he doesn’t go for the quality players . Enough of his project y. let him go to PSG for his y plan.

From all the recent players Wenger has shown interest in, it appears he is building a team around Jack Wilshere. That might mean forgetting positioning in the Premiership for a further two seasons?????

In doing so he must include a better coaching team. That’s when I will take this vision seriously!
