Arsenal To Bolster Up Defence With £5m Starlet?

Arsenal are pursuing the signature of talented young defender Aymen Abdennour after sending scout Giles Grimandi to watch him in a recent match for current club Toulouse.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to solve his left-back issue, with Andre Santos continuously failing to impress and Kieran Gibbs’ disappointing progress due to his number of injuries, and with the Tunisian producing high quality performances of late, he is high up on the Frenchman’s wish-list this coming transfer window.

Still only 23-years-old, he moved to the French club two summers ago from Etoile du Sahel in his home country, and has really put himself on the radar of The Gunners in the past few months.

He is known as being equally adept defending and attacking, and being 6’2″, he would really be a great addition and presence to an already tall solid defence. With Arsenal dipping into Ligue 1 to often sign players in the past, none more recently than forward Olivier Giroud, he would be able to adapt more easily with a strong French-speaking contingent.

The North London side, however, will have to beat off competition from fellow suitors Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG, but although Abdennour’s contract doesn’t run out until 2016, reports in France suggest he’ll be allowed to leave on the cheap for around £5m.

This is not a figure that even shy-spending Arsenal can turn their nose up to, so could we be seeing the former Werder-Bremen loanee turning out in the Red and White in the New Year?
