Arsenal to snub Song for another defensive midfielder
There is quite the buzz here at the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed in the Daily Star that Arsene Wenger has set his sights not on luring former player Alex Song back to the club but to a young starlet playing for Celtic instead.
Just the other day we were talking about the possibility that the unhappy Song could well make a return to the Emirates Stadiumless than a year after he departed for Barcelona but Wenger is ready to turn his back on the midfielder and attentions towards Victor Wanyama in another twist in the search for a defensive midfield linchpin.
The Celtic player is only 21 years of age and is simply the biggest asset the SPL club currently have. Whilst the Bhoys wish to hold onto their top talent, Neil Lennon is fully aware that should a bid come in and be deemed acceptable, there will be very little he is able to do when it comes to keeping the Kenyan international in Glasgow.
It looks like £10 million would be enough to lure the young player away from Parkhead and Wenger is more than willing to pay that kind of fee for a player who is not only showing huge talent but is developing all the time and has much more to offer the game as his career progresses.
Song meanwhile looks like either having to tough it out at Barcelona or look for a move elsewhere with this latest interest in Wanyama looking like closing the door on a return for the 25-year-old Cameroonian.
