Talk about shocked faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest claims from the Daily Mail over the future of Luis Suarez.
The forward has been trying his very best to get away from Anfield all summer and now it seems he may well have done a total U-turn and decided to remain at the club after all.
In quotes that are simply stunning given his actions and words over the summer so far, Suarez has praised the loyalty of Liverpool fans and noted to a Uruguayan journalist: “For me now, due to all the people’s affections for me, I will be staying.”
Of course this puts Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers in a fantastic position as the club appear to have won the battle of wills with the player and are now in pole position to keep their star man – who has plenty more grovelling to do before a new contract is offered.
This means only one thing for Arsenal fans however and it is not good. They have missed out on their top target of the summer and not only that, but they have failed to land anyone else due to their constant pursuit of Suarez, seeing the likes of Gonzalo Higuain slip through their fingers.
This has left some very unhappy Gunners fans and a manager who given the season is about to start, is pretty much left with the options remaining from last season.
