Arsene Wenger eyeing Serie A striker

Arsenal seem to be all the rage here at the Football Transfer Tavern today and news has reached our ears via the Daily Express that another coup could be on the horizon for Arsene Wenger.

The club are apparently interested in Stevan Jovetic who is currently plying his trade in Serie A with Florence-based outfit Fiorentina. The striker has been a rumoured target of Manchester City but the club have moved away from the player and it now seems Wenger is in pole position to land the Montenegro international.

Arsenal of course are in a battle to finish in the top four and some extra fire power could be vital to the North London side securing that final Champions League spot. The Gunners had been strongly linked with a move for David Villa yet Barcelona are refusing to let the player leave, in this transfer window at least and Wenger has been forced to look at other targets.

Fiorentina have claimed that any swoop for the player is a no go area, yet having just signed Giuseppe Rossi from Villarreal, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the player could be allowed to leave the Stadio Artemi Franchi. Should Wenger make a bid for the player, it would have to be in the region of £20 million to even start discussions with the Serie A side.

Any truth in Jovetic to Arsenal or has this rumour been on the booze? Rate this rumour below.
