We here at the Football Transfer Tavern feel that players must know they are not required even if they are leaving a team short, and The Independent are reporting that this is the case at Arsenal with Brazilian full back Andre Santos set to return to his native Brazil on loan.
To say the word misfit in the same sentence as Andre Santos does not even begin to cover it, and the Brazilian has been looking towards the door at the Emirates Stadium for a while now. Arsenal are of course short of players and given they are still fighting for trophies on multiple fronts not to mention a huge battle to get into the top four, you would think that every player counts.
This is not the case with Santos, who has been told he can leave on loan and Brazilian outfit Gremio are all set to officially tie up a loan deal later on today. The 29-year-old has seen himself become a peripheral figure in Arsenal’s side not being trusted even as cover in their defence in recent times.
Now Santos has been offered a way out by Gremino who are keen on the defender and willing to offer him a return to his homeland. As reported by Metro on Friday, Gremio president Fabio Koff claimed that: “It has taken a lot of time to establish the conditions [of the deal].[Arsenal] is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Their figures are very different. We had patience and skill in trading. Let’s wait.”
