David Villa has been talked about nearly everyday here at the Football Transfer Tavern and today is exactly the same. BBC Sport claim that the player will not be leaving Barcelona this January transfer window.
Villa has been a bit-part player this season and has not started for six consecutive matches now, coming on as a substitute or not even featuring at all. It had been claimed that the striker would seek a move away from the Camp Nou for first team football with Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly making moves for his signature.
Barcelona however seem to have gone from slapping a £16 million price tag on Villa’s head to now claiming he is not allowed to leave at all, with Sandro Rosell telling Catalan radio station RAC1: “I completely rule out the transfer of Villa during the winter market. He is ours and we need him, there is a lot of the season left.”
Villa has been hampered by serious injury yet has now returned to fitness and still cannot break into a side that boasts some of the very best players in the world. Whilst he may not be able to force a move this winter, it seems likely that this saga will run and run with the player arguably looking elsewhere again in the summer.
