It is not often these days that Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern do much other than drown their sorrows, but according to Sky Sports there is a bit of good news regarding the future of Theo Walcott.
The forward has of course been stalling over a new deal and as of yet has not followed a host of other players in penning a new contract at the club. Wenger and the board have been doing everything possible to convince the England international to sign, yet for a time it looked like the player was on his way.
The Emirates faithful have already had to oversee the departures of players such as Cesc Fabregas and more recently Robin van Persie and for the first time under Arsene Wenger, there have been signs of real discontentment. Some fans have even calling for the manager’s head – something we had not seen happen before.
Walcott had been clamouring to play straight through the middle as he felt this was his best position and after Wenger gave him a chance there, he has impressed no end (although this may have something to do with a certain Thierry Henry returning to the club to help him in training!)
Cue fans being more certain than ever they wanted to keep Theo and now Wenger has claimed Walcott is set to pen the lucrative deal noting: “I hope it will be soon. Very, very soon now.”
