Liverpool have had their name linked with yet another player here in the Football Transfer Tavern, but sources at talkSPORT believe any stories linking the club with a move for Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes are likely to be unreliable.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Valdes as the club looks for a replacement for Pepe Reina, who by his own admission has endured a couple of shaky seasons at Anfield.
The Barcelona keeper has just 12 months left on his current deal, and it is understood that talks over an extension to his contract have stalled.
But Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has insisted Valdes has no intention to leave and the Catalans still hope to strike an agreement for him to stay at the Camp Nou.
Zubizarreta said: “He has not said to us that he would like to go. The negotiations are not broadcasted and have not been settled yet.
“We have spoken about general issues. It is hard to find another goalkeeper for Barcelona while we still have Victor.”
Valdes has spent his entire career at Barcelona and enjoyed a breakthrough in the first team in 2002. He has been unfortunate that Spain possess Iker Casillas between the sticks at international level and has had to compete with Pepe Reina himself for the number two jersey, achieving 10 caps for La Roja in the process.
