Barca want new keeper for free
They are not exactly known for their big spending ways, but here at the Football Transfer Tavern, even we are surprised about the news coming from Marca who claim Barcelona will look to sign a goalkeeper for free.
The club were of course slightly shaken by the news that Victor Valdes planned on seeing out his contract and leaving the club in 2014 and many thought he would simply be sold to raise funds. Marca however claim that the keeper will not only be allowed to leave on a free but that the Catalan giants wish to sign a new keeper for free.
The reason for this is – according to the Spanish press- that Barca do not wish to exceed a budget of 50 million euros, and 30 of these are allegedly allocated for Neymar. The club either wish to bring in someone on a free who is out of contract or would be willing to allow a straight swap for Valdes. This will of course alert Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson who has been glancing at the Spanish keeper as a replacement for David De Gea in recent weeks, according to The Times.
There is also the option for Barcelona to attempt to convince Valdes to pan a new deal – something they have not totally given up hope on.
