Supporters of the two Manchester clubs have been left on tenterhooks after news broke in the Football Transfer Tavern that highly regarded Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Fernandinho was preparing to move to Manchester.
The 27-year-old Brazilian has caused quite a stir at the bar after he announced that he will be signing for a club in Manchester during the January transfer window but is teasingly yet to reveal if it will either be Manchester United or Manchester City.
He has impressed in this seasons Champions League, scoring in the Ukrainians 2-1 victory over Chelsea and he has been monitored by various clubs across Europe this season including Premier League rivals Tottenham, however it appears that they have been beaten to his signature by one of the two Manchester-based clubs.
A talkSPORT article reports the playmaker as saying: “I am closing a deal with an English club. I will play in Manchester in January.”
The Brazil international has spent the last eight years playing in the Ukraine and may feel it is time to leave after winning the domestic title on five different occasions. However after the success of progressing to the last 16 of the Champions League, it would still be considered somewhat of a surprise to see him playing in England come January despite his declaration.
