Can Anyone Tell Me Why Kuyt Is Being So Badly Mismanaged?

Dirk Kuyt has hit out at Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish for refusing to play the Dutch forward, but has quashed speculation of a return to Feyenoord in the process.
Kuyt has been a loyal servant to Liverpool and an ever present in the team since his move in 2006 and has become a fan favourite for his non-stop, hard-working attitude. However, Dalglish’s revolution in the past 18 months has pushed Kuyt out of the team and he’s become a bench warmer under the Scot.
A furious Kuyt said,
“Under this manager I don’t have the feeling any more that he will put me in the side every week. I’m under no illusion about playing every week. But I believe I am still good enough to play for Liverpool every week.”
Given that Kuyt is a probable starter for Holland at Euro 2012, you have to ask the question – why on earth won’t Dalglish play Kuyt? The Dutchman has been a consistent performer at Anfield and has been known to chip in with crucial goals – something Liverpool have often lacked under Dalglish in the 2011/12 season, particularly at home.
The reliance on Luis Suarez for goals has been crippling for Liverpool this year – Suarez has scored 11 goals this season, but the nearest to him is Craig Bellamy, another bit part player, with 6 goals. Their profligacy in front of goal has been evident in many games this season and you would have to think that someone like Kuyt would have been of great use.
Dalglish’s decision to overhaul the team with British talent has backfired. Take Stewart Downing for instance. Instead of using Kuyt, Dalglish felt obliged to stick by his £20m purchase despite the winger failing to score or even notch an assist during the entirety of the 2011 season.
Would Kuyt have been more productive than this if he had started as many games as Downing did? I think the answer would be a resounding yes. Even Jordan Henderson has been favoured on the right hand side despite being better in the centre of midfield and has had a poor season this year since signing from Sunderland.
Kuyt has to be in the Liverpool setup next year. He offers valuable experience and is a great role model for younger players coming through the ranks, but if Dalglish wants to keep hold of Kuyt then he needs to start giving him more opportunities in the first team or a well respected team player will seek a move elsewhere.
However, you get the feeling that Dalglish doesn’t consider Kuyt part of his long term plan for the club and if Dalglish’s track record is anything to go buy, expect a huge wad of cash to be thrown at some under-productive English winger instead of playing someone who has proven his worth to the club.
Someone who has given great service like Kuyt deserves more respect given to him – but it looks as though Kenny Dalglish isn’t the man to give it to him.

Kuyt has been treated disgracefully by KD. Leaving him out to play total no-hopers like Henderson is deeply insulting. Does anyone see Henderson scoring a hat-trick against United? Kuyt is absolutely right to be furious.

I agree. Dalglish will live or die by his signings but his choice to consistently play Henderson over someone like Kuyt is bemusing to me.

21 starts 2 goals 1 assist! Are you sure Kuyt didn’t have chances to prove to Kenny he was worth a start last season? He didn’t take his chances! He needs to stop moaning he was shocking in front of goal he could have been KD saviour like he was for Rafa! Talking to The S** paper what is that all about? Especially after reading a psalm at the Hillsborough service.

lol Downing, 36 starts, 0 goals, 0 assist… still KD keep on playing him every week…KD must resign for the good of LFC! His philosophy is out of modern football. Disgraceful season!!!

lol did Kuyt do enough to keep Downing/Henderson out of the team? The answer is no and he was played up front with Suarez as well to try and forge a partnership and that was when we had our worse run of results for 50 years!

Has Downing/Henderson done enough to keep Kuyt out of the team? they’ve had more chances too.

To be fair though, that’s 2 more goals and 2 more assists than Downing racked up. I thought that someone who has been such a good servant to the club would have been treated a little better. I think there is one miss that sticks out (was right in front of goal and he stuck it over the bar, can’t remember who against off the top of my head) but I still think he can contribute.

Villa! I think him and Maxi should have started this season carrying on from last season to many changes to soon! But him and others could of had easily had double figures in goals and assists but we were terrible in front of goal! Is that Kenny’s fault or the players?

Its very simple. It’s all about business. The older players on higher wages are being phased out. In the Damien Comolli interview he says it cost more to renew a contract than buy a new player. Kuyt is hard working but very wasteful and past his best. I think it sad but football is about business nowdays. No room for sentiment.

To be honest kuyt has been shocking all year, don’t recall a good performance, having said that very few othe players can say they have done more. Would have rather seen more of the youngsters given a chance once we knew the season was over.

I’m not an LFC fan so would be interested to know – would you guys rather keep hold of him or let him go? I still think he can offer something but this is a totally outside view.
May 15th, 2012
We need a goal scorer and wingers with real pace and Kuyt is the odd one out at the moment on both accounts!
May 15th, 2012
I think most people thought that’s what Downing would be. Any names you’d like? Hoilett could be a cheap option for you guys.
May 15th, 2012
Downing should of had a few assists but he didn’t expect the forwards to start firing blanks number of times Carroll headed over is shocking!Elia or Krasic from Juventus or Affellay all of them are avaiable and need to rebuild their reputations like Liverpool!
