The striker has been nothing short of sensational this term and has kept Napoli flying high in Serie A, meaning that not only have Manchester City been sniffing around the player but Chelsea also according to a January report by talkSPORT. Of course both of these Premier League clubs will be looking for at least one new striker in the summer with Chelsea the former favourites to land the player.
The Blues have of course bought Demba Ba in the January transfer window and do have Romelu Lukaku on loan at West Bromwich Albion, not to mention the fact that Fernando Torres is still at the club. However, both clubs are likely to feel that a big money summer signing is needed – especially if they want to lure a top class new manager and push for the title next season. Mancini’s men have seen Mario Balotelli depart for his homeland and when played as a straight number nine, he has scored three goals in two games. With Mancini’s other three strikers underperforming, the Italian tactician is desperate to lure someone in the summer and Cavani could well be that man.
Both clubs will have to watch out however, as Mundo claim that Real Madrid are set to break the 56 million euro release clause in the Uruguayan’s contract and make an early bid for him in order to secure his services. The club want to wrap up a deal and save any potential haggling in the summer.
