Chelsea duo set for Stamford Bridge stay

Juan MataMetro have a rather interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Jose Mourinho is keen to keep David Luiz and Juan Mata at the club.

The duo have been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge for some time now and it was even rumoured that the pair were offered to Manchester United in a ‘pick one plus cash’ for Wayne Rooney which turned out to be false.

Not only that but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been linked with a sensational swoop for Juan Mata, a player he tried to sign back in 2011 before Chelsea landed him.

Now Mourinho has claimed that both are vital to his plans and has noted that: “I am not going to contact them based on news that is not true and that they know that it is not true, because I told them they are very important for me.

“How can I change that two days later because of a news (report)? So, no contact with them.

“I spoke with them during the summer, in my period of holiday and their period in the Confederations Cup.

“When they finished the Confederations Cup I just wished them luck and told them that I will see them on the 28th (July).”

Of course Chelsea fans will welcome this news, especially in respect of Mata who is a fan favourite and has been the outstanding player over the last couple of seasons at the club.

Was it foolish to ever think Chelsea would part with the impressive duo this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.

Yes of cos! mourinho would have been stupid for that. also selling moses and mikel is very risky. mour shld think fast defensively mikel is very important to the squad. make sure schrrule blends with d team.

I dnt support d idea of keeping essien in place of mikel. teamwise mikel for now is far better than essien cos he’s prone to injury.

It’s quite unthinkable and unimaginable that anyone could even conceive the idea of selling the duo (Mata & Luis).
Finally, let’s not sell Mikel simply because he is the only natural cover for our defense right now. I see us doing well pairing him with Van Ginkel or Oscar in the pivot.
    Best of luck, Chelsea!
