The Birmingham City keeper is one of the best young prospects around and is resigned to being shipped out by the club who are in financial turmoil. Butland would go for around £3 million and it is money that the St. Andrews side desperately need.
Quite why Chelsea want to land the keeper is peculiar given the prevalence of Petr Cech and the impressive Thibaut Courtois on loan at Atleico Madrid waiting in the wings. Ross Turnbull and Hilario aren’t held in the highest regard at Stamford Bridge and this may have persuaded the Blues to target England international and Team GB representative Butland.
This would of course cast major speculation over the future of Courtois at the club and given both Atleti and Barcelona reportedly wish to land him permanently according to Marca, it certainly makes you wonder where his long-term future lies. Chelsea are considering making a bid for the player and then loaning him out – potentially even back to Birmingham.
