Chelsea have ‘no chance’ in transfer pursuit

alonso.jpgMetro have a sensational claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Xabi Alonso will not be leaving Real Madrid this summer.

The player has long been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu and it had been thought that a link up with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea was on the cards – now it seems however that the player is looking to see out his contract with Los Blancos and then asses his options next summer when his deal is finished.

Of course, Liverpool were highly interested in their former hero who was pivotal in their comeback during the 2005 Champions League Final in Istanbul and would have been welcomed back to Anfield with open arms should he have chosen to return to Merseyside.

Mourinho knows that Alonso was one of his greatest supporters, yet when asked if he might return to England this summer, he noted: “No chance. No way.”

Clearly the mooted arrival of Real Sociedad midfield enforcer Asier Illarramendi will affect the player’s position in the team and has also affected the decision of Alonso to stall on a new deal. As one of our punters quips, we may not see him back in the Premier League this summer but maybe next year.

Will Alonso return to the Premier League in the future, and with whom? Let us know your thoughts below.

LFC of course. He certainly ain’t going to cheating Chelski. Give it time, when Abromavich quits Chelski, they’ll be a struggling mid table team, where they used to be and also belong!!!

Could never see Xabi Alonso playing for any EPL team but The Reds. He should never have been allowed to leave Anfield. The man is pure class! I hope he returns in 2014.

Haha jealous scousers, I love the fact that every season for the next decade we will only see you trying for Europa. Xabi would be better off going to Everton these days :-) YNWA-You’ll Never Win Anything
