Metro carry some welcome words for Chelsea fans today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Jose Mourinho has refused to entertain rumours of a Juan Mata departure.
The manager has spoken out about the Spanish International who has repeatedly been linked with a move away from the club since his second coming.
Now, despite the summer arrivals of Marco van Ginkel, Andre Schurrle and return of Kevin de Bruyne, Mata does have a future at the club and an important one at that.
Mourinho noted that: “He is a player we all like, he is a player we want to keep.
“We want more quality in the team, not less. Juan is not a player we want to lose.”
Clearly that puts to bed claims that Mata will leave the club as part of a swap deal for Wayne Rooney, but Jose did speak about some departures from Stamford Bridge. The manager spoke about the imminent arrival of Willian and stated that ideally he would like to free up some squad space for the former Tottenham target.
There have been question marks over the future of not only John Obi Mikel and Demba Ba this summer but also Victor Moses and it seems that at least two of the three will certainly be leaving this summer. Ideally Chelsea would look to loan deals but a permanent move is not out of the question. Mikel is currently subject to a £10 million bid from Galatasaray and Moses is looking at loan options.
