Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we eagerly await the next press conference from Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez given his love for rants, yet the latest one from Sky Sports will not inspire Chelsea fans much.
The manager has failed to win over the fans and has now managed to get himself into a war of words with Marco Materazzi who has comprehensively won the battle as reported in The Independent. The least favourite and least successful Chelsea manager of the Roman Abramovich era has now claimed that despite the recent flops in the cup competitions in the last week, the Blues will not be bringing any more new faces in.
Benitez claimed: “I don’t think so but my job is to improve my squad and manage the situation we have. We are playing more games than anyone.
“In some positions we have only two or three players, that’s the reality. After the Africa Cup of Nations, and when we get Eden Hazard back, we’ll be able to manage a bit better.”
He also spoke about his own job and noted that: “I’m really focused on my job. We know we are training well and preparing properly, and that’s my job. The players are happy in terms of what we are doing.”
Whilst Benitez may feel his ‘position is exactly the same’, the Daily Mail are now linking Everton manager David Moyes with the Stamford Bridge manager’s hotseat, and one would feel that Benitez is on increasingly shaky ground.
