Metro have a rather interesting claim for Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern today, as they note that Demba Ba could well be ready to commit to the club.
Over a pint of beer, our landlord leans over and tells all. He notes that the Senegalese forward, who admitted he was all set and ready to join Arsenal on loan on deadline day, has spoken ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League tie with Basel.
Ba noted that despite facing a huge amount of competition for a starting berth at the club, he is focused and still willing to knuckle down and fight for a place in the Blues starting line up.
Not only does Ba have to contend with Fernando Torres, but there is also new boy Samuel Eto’o ahead of him in the Stamford Bridge pecking order. Add to this the fact that Andre Schurrle can also double up as a centre forward in Jose Mourinho’s eyes, and we agree with one of our punters who notes that you cannot blame Ba for having been prepared to join the Gunners.
After Arsenal netted the impressive capture of Mesut Ozil on September 2nd, this significantly raised Arsenal’s title credentials and Jose Mourinho was therefore unwilling to lend Ba to a potential rival for the Premier League crown and blocked Ba’s move.
Now Ba is set on winning a place in the starting eleven and claimed: “I was ready to go and to play there [Arsenal], but it didn’t happen,
“I think I’m a good professional, and I’ve always worked hard to deserve what I have. Until today I will keep doing the same.
“I told him [Mourinho] if I stay I will keep fighting for the club and for the side. That’s it.
“Now what matters is the next months, the next years with Chelsea and that’s it.”
Ba has been boosted with the fact that Romelu Lukaku has been sent out on loan to Everton. Nevertheless, as our barmaid wipes down our table, she agrees that Ba will face a huge task to become Chelsea’s number one striker this season.
