Just yesterday here at the Football Transfer Tavern we were digesting the sensational news that Edinson Cavani was reportedly in talks with Real Madrid and now Gazzetta Dello Sport add further fuel to this fire.
The Italian publication claim that not only are the player’s agents in talk with the Spanish giants but his father has now disclosed where the player’s heart truly lies. Cavani Senior endeared his son to the Real Madrid faithful even before anything official has been confirmed by telling Marca TV that: “Madrid would be the ideal club for Cavani. Since he was a boy he has always had eyes for Real.”
Whether these ‘eyes’ carry any true worth or not, the fact that his father is going this far to link the player to Real Madrid speaks volumes. Marca in turn repaid the favour, running an article stating the player “had as good a goal scoring record as Messi” and are fully fledged members of the Cavani bandwagon.
The Daily Mail recently linked the player with Manchester City and Cavani is the top goal scorer in Serie A and has a buy out clause of £52 million. The player himself moved to distance himself from the claims and Eurosport report that the Uruguayan noted “I hope to be here for a long time. My children are Neapolitan, as they are indelibly linked to this city.”
Despite these words from the player, it seems he will be on the move in the summer and the closest his children will get to Neapolitan will be the ice cream when they move to Madrid.
