Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we cannot seem to escape the rumours surrounding one Celta Vigo starlet and a report in Sky Sports today has revealed even more about the situation encircling Iago Aspas.
The striker has lit up La Liga this term, and given all the attention lauded on Swansea City’s Michu after his fantastic start to life in the Premier League, eyes are on La Liga more than ever. After Arsene Wenger admitted he missed the talent Michu displayed last season for Rayo Vallecano, it seems no manger is willing to let another potentially top player slip through the net.
Cue everyone who is anyone sniffing around Aspas who has been the star of Celta’s team for a long time now, being vital in their promotion push and keeping them in the top division in Spain. The problem for Celta is that Aspas does have a buy out clause in his contract and that looks like being met this transfer window. The club and player are happy in eachother’s company until the summer at the very earliest, but should an offer trigger the 10 million euros release clause, the player could well be tempted away.
Losing the forward would be a huge blow for the club who despite initially being bullish about keeping the player now claim: “It seems that there is the possibility of a club emerging that are willing to pay the clause. In that case, if the player wants to go, Celta will not be able to do anything.”
Two clubs from opposite ends of the Premier League table – Chelsea and Reading remain interested in the Spaniard’s services.
