Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are set for a relaxed January, with there being no areas of the squad that desperately need improving, although the Blues fans in the bar are hoping for some high-profile deals.

One of the names being whispered as potentially moving to Stamford Bridge this month is a name Premier League followers will be familiar with, as SportBild (via Telegraph) claimed last week Chelsea were interested in signing Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican striker has excelled with Bayer Leverkusen since leaving Manchester United but the German giants are prepared to cash-in on the 28-year-old this month, according to reports.

With Michy Batshuayi failing to set the Premier League alight since arriving from Marseille in the summer, Chelsea’s attacking options are lacking if Diego Costa is taken out of the frame and an injury to the Spaniard could derail their charge for the title.

Hernandez would certainly improve Chelsea’s squad depth but the former Manchester United man is happy in his current surroundings, telling Bundesliga’s official website:

‘Why would I like to stay in the Bundesliga? Because I feel good and I’m happy. I’ve learned a lot in the Bundesliga, as a player and as a man.’

‘I like playing in the Champions League, and luckily Bayer have been involved in the last few years. We hope we can achieve that goal again in the second half of the season.’

Our landlord reckons Hernandez would like another crack in the Premier League though, having failed to become a regular starter during his days at Old Trafford, whilst also adding that Leverkusen may not have Champions League football next season as they currently sit ninth, eight points off the top-four.
