Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are no longer willing to discuss the future of Frank Lampard until at least a shot of tequila is in front of them, and the latest news from Sky Sports will not impress them.
The player is a Chelsea legend in the eyes of the Blues fans with his performances and professionalism this season despite the club’s shall we say, misguided treatment of him. There are two things abundantly clear in this saga – Lampard appears willing to stay and the Chelsea fans agree. However the club do not.
The 34-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs this January and Serie A side Lazio were one outfit thought to be willing to offer a three-year deal and wages to suit a player of Lampard’s reputation. However Claudio Lotito, the club president claimed: “We are aware that we have players in that position that are already competitive. However, should we go for a new midfielder, he would have to fit in with the economic structure we have at the club. The dressing room has its own balance and we have no intention of altering that.”
In a further blow to Lampard, Fiorentina have also ruled out making a move for the player who is closing in on the record held by Chelsea’s all-time number one scorer Bobby Tambling. The club stated: “Lampard is a very strong player, but it’s not within our economic parameters.”
All is not lost for the England International however as fellow Italians Napoli are interested along with a host of other teams.
