In the Football Transfer Tavern we are beginning to accept that Paris Saint Germain are one of the clubs we will be talking a great deal about and the news coming from today’s Daily Mail regarding not only Cristiano Ronaldo but two Premier League players is the current topic.
Paris Saint Germain are looking to be one of the biggest outfits in world football and have demonstrated their financial muscle as backed by the Qatar Investment Authority with the signings of the likes of Javier Pastore, Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The club are set to sign a further £200 million-a-year deal with the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) meaning more funds could be available. The so-called Manchester City of France are currently chasing Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and have given the clearest signal yet that they want to land the star.
PSG sporting director Leonardo spoke to L’Equipe stating: “When we are discussing a possible transfer for a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, there are only four or five clubs that can be taken into consideration. PSG are one of those.” Whilst this may seem arrogant, they are certainly correct and have also weighed in on the rumours surrounding Ashley Cole and Patrice Evra.
Leonardo continued: “Cole or Evra? No. With Christophe Jallet, Maxwell, Gregory van der Wiel and Sylvain Armand, I think we have what it takes. In the future we will talk about it, but not now.”
So whilst United and Chelsea fans may sleep more soundly, Real Madrid fans will be having a few more sleepless nights!
