Chelsea Will Survive £20m Schurrle Knock Back
Chelsea’s move for Bayer Levekusen forward Andre Schurrle has took a set back after the German club rejected Chelsea’s intial bid of £20m.
The exciting young German international impressed during Levekusen’s Bundesliga campaign last season scoring 10 goals in 38 matches, he also caught the eye of Chelsea during their Champions League clashes and at Euro 2012.
Bayer Leverkusen chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser said:
“We received a concrete offer from Chelsea for over €20m.
Talks went back and forth but we decided to keep him. Andre is a valuable player for us, and he also made it clear he would like to stay”.
Schurrle can play either as a striker or on the wings and has the pace and strength to trouble defences.
The statement from Levekusen is pretty conclusive, the club want to keep him and the player wants to stay so this deal is a good as dead. It is a blow and a set-back in what I’m sure is a very well thought out transfer stratergy but I’m sure Abramovich and Di Matteo have several targets for each position.
